This stuff makes me sad. 6 years ago we couldn't get more than $6K for my dad's 1974 911 Rinspeed that was in really nice shape. That thing could really fly.

Kinda put's this morning's NPOCP in perspective. For just shy of 30k, you could get an almost-done '69 Lotus with a Toyota engine ... or a well-sorted air-cooled 911. I love British sports cars; a defining moment in my Jalop upbringing was seeing an old Lotus (an Elan, maybe?) doing hot laps in the dirt perimeter of the parking lot at the Lime Rock Vintage Car Festival.
But I'd still go with the German in this contest.

If that weren't in DC, I'd swear that was my dad's car

I agree. Dad sold his '78 about 15 years ago for I think $8k. Luckily he still has his '84 Targa (eerily similar to the one listed here)

For $30,000 I'll take a nice 1969 Corvette 427 thankyouverymuch. The values on these things are just loony these days. $30k buys you a ratty DeTomaso Pantera for crying out loud!
